NGO Registration in Nigeria - Incorporated Trustees Step by Step

If you want to run a non-profit, foundation, religious organization, or community-based organisation in Nigeria, you need to register as Incorporated Trustees with CAC under Part F of CAMA.
What you'll need
- Minimum 2 trustees (no maximum), 18+, of sound mind, no bankruptcy history
- A board of trustees with chairman, secretary, and members
- Proposed name approved by CAC (must end with 'Foundation', 'Initiative', 'Trust' etc.)
- Constitution outlining aims, objectives, and governance
- Special clauses on dissolution and asset distribution
- Two-week newspaper publication (national + local) of the proposed registration
- Minutes of meeting appointing trustees + impression of common seal
Timeline & cost
Plan for 8–14 weeks end-to-end due to mandatory publication and CAC's vetting. Fees scale with the publication channels and CAC processing tier you choose.
Post-registration
- Apply for TIN and SCUML (mandatory for NGOs)
- Register with the Special Control Unit if accepting foreign donations
