Passport types

Standard 32-page (5-year validity) - basic travel
Standard 64-page (5 or 10-year validity) - frequent travellers

Fresh application - what you'll need

NIN (National Identification Number) - non-negotiable
Birth certificate or age declaration
Local Government Area (LGA) identification letter
Two recent passport photographs (white background)
Guarantor's form sworn before a Commissioner for Oaths
Parental consent + parents' data page (for minors under 18)

Renewal & re-issuance

Renewal: old passport + NIN + new photos. Easier and faster than fresh.
Re-issuance (lost/stolen): police report + sworn affidavit + newspaper publication + NIN
Damaged passport: surrender old booklet + standard renewal documents

Timelines

Renewals typically take 2–6 weeks; fresh applications 3–8 weeks depending on the NIS office and biometric capture slot. Lost/stolen replacements take longest due to the affidavit and publication requirement.
